We are pleased to announce the return of our flagship event, the Kent & Sussex Bonspiel for the 2025/26 season. This will be the 10th Kent & Sussex Bonspiel, and the first back in England since the reopening of the rink as Tunbridge Wells Curling Club. This is a friendly and social bonspiel designed to bring our members together to support the SECC and celebrate the sport we love.
FORMAT
In the group stage there are 4 coloured groups with 4 teams in each. During the Friday and Saturday sessions, each team will play the other three teams in their group. The playoffs will begin Sunday morning with teams from each group playing against a team of the same rank from another group (Red v Yellow and Blue v Green). A second playoff round follows in the afternoon, where the top 14 teams will play one last game (Red/Yellow v Blue/Green) to decide the final rankings. Teams who lose the rank 4 v rank 4 games will be ranked 15th or 16th based on their points, ends, and shots scored in the group stage only. The final draw will finish at approximately 6pm on Sunday which will be followed by a brief trophy presentation.
RULES
All games should be 6 ends, however we will ring a bell after 85 minutes of play. If the bell sounds and you have not begun the 6th end, then it cannot start as we have a tight schedule and need to give the ice team enough time to prep between games. In the group stage, the tiebreaker for rankings on teams even on points will be number of ends scored followed by number of shots scored. In the event two teams are still tied, there will be a coin flip. In the playoff rounds, any tied games will be decided by one draw to the button per team. We will be enforcing the “no tick” rule for all games, but there is no requirement for any specific brush pads.
FACILITIES & FOOD
Also included in the fee is lunch on both days (this will be provided by Tunbridge Wells Curling Club) and there will be plenty of drinks and snacks available to purchase at the bar.
Curling shoes, stabilizers, and brooms will be available to borrow from the rink.
